Woman and man are charged over alleged attack on taxi driver

A MAN and a woman are due to appear in court today having been charged with assaulting a taxi driver in Ranelagh in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The driver was allegedly hit with a broken bottle and bitten in the attack in Ranelagh at the weekend.

Gardai at Rathmines have charged two people, a man aged 27 and a woman aged 22 in connection with the investigation into the alleged assault which occurred at the Charleston Road and Oakley Road junction at approximately 5.30am on Saturday morning.

They have both remained in custody since their arrest and are due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning.

Gardai arrested the man and woman a short distance from the scene.


They were detained at Rathmines and Terenure Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Taxi driver Jiyue Song (32), a father of two who lives in Blanchardstown, alleges he was the victim of the attack.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area of Ranelagh, especially at the Charleston Road and Oakely Road sections, between 5am and 6am on Saturday morning to come forward.

They are also appealing for any taxi drivers who may have witnessed the alleged attack to come forward.
