VW fights court bid by dealer to stop closure
A VOLKSWAGEN dealer is seeking an injunction preventing the termination of his dealership as part of a nationwide reorganisation of VW outlets.
The move followed what VW said was a "catastrophic" fall in overall car sales from 186,000 in 2007 to just 79,000 in 2012.
Pat O'Leary, a main dealer based in Lissarda near Macroom in Cork, said VW's plan – involving the ending of the dealership he has had for 24 years – was not justified.
VW Group Ireland has urged the High Court not to grant the injunction because of an "extraordinary delay" by Mr O'Leary in challenging the termination, which it says he was notified of over two years ago.
The judge said he hoped to give his decision next week.
