Veteran comedian Sil Fox has denied sexually assaulting a woman at a social event.

Mr Fox (86) was allegedly recorded on CCTV during the incident.

The accused, of Wellington Lawn, in Templeogue, appeared before Dublin District Court charged with sexual assault at a bar in Dublin 2 on December 17, 2018.

Sergeant Gail Smith told the court the DPP had directed summary trial of the case in the district court.

Judge Michael Walsh read a written summary of the evidence and accepted jurisdiction to deal with the matter in the district court.

No details of the allegation were read out to the court.

Defence solicitor Michael French said he had received CCTV and statements in relation to the matter.

Mr French said his client pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Judge Walsh adjourned the matter to a date in November for hearing.

Judge Walsh also assigned Mr French on legal aid, after the court heard Mr Fox was an old-age pensioner.
