Unfair dismissal case against U2 stars' Clarence Hotel is struck out

Ray Managh

A CASE of alleged unfair dismissal against Bono and The Edge's Clarence Hotel on Dublin's Wellington Quay has been struck out in the Circuit Civil Court.

Geoff Cassidy, of Springfield, Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin, had sued Bushfield Limited, which trades as The Clarence Hotel, for unfair dismissal. When his claim came up before the Employment Appeals Tribunal on March 12 last, it ruled it had no jurisdiction to hear the claim because Mr Cassidy had lodged it outside the statutory time period. The decision had been appealed by Mr Cassidy to Dublin Circuit Civil Court.

The case had been adjourned twice to allow negotiations between the parties. Circuit Court president Mr Justice Raymond Groarke was told it could be struck out with no order.
