Two lose club case

TWO men who claimed they were beaten up by nightclub security men have lost their High Court action. Scaffolder Robert Cumiskey (38), of Grattan Lodge, Donaghmede, and taxi-driver Lee Hennessy (39), Leinster Street, North Strand, both Dublin, had sued Templeville Developments Ltd trading as Barcode nightclub at the Westwood Gym, Clontarf, Dublin, over the incident on October 17, 2004, when they were refused entry to the club.

Mr Justice Kevin Feeney yesterday dismissed their claim for damages, saying he was satisfied they had started the incident and the security men had responded in self-defence but not with excessive force.

UK man arrested

A 47-YEAR-old man wanted in the UK on child sex allegations has appeared before the High Court here. Lesley Day is facing a total of seven charges including rape, attempted rape and a number of counts of sexual assault against a child.

Mr Day was arrested in Paulstown, Co Kilkenny, yesterday morning. The judge remanded Mr Day in custody pending the listing of an extradition hearing on February 12.

Jailed over cocaine

A MAN has been jailed for possession of cocaine. Amaechi Innocent (39), of Botanic Road, Glasnevin, Dublin, had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of 156 grammes of cocaine valued at €10,920 for sale or supply.

The cocaine was hidden in jewellery in a package that had originated from South Africa and was posted to Innocent. The judge suspended the final 12 months of a two-year term.

Ryan IRA trial set

A BROTHER of murdered dissident republican Alan Ryan and another man will stand trial this autumn for IRA membership.

Vincent Ryan (22) and his co-accused Darragh Evans (23) were arrested following paramilitary activity at the funeral of Alan Ryan in early September last year. Mr Justice Paul Butler said the court would fix October 22 for a two-week trial.
