Trial of property developer Kevin McGeever set for May

The trial of former property developer Kevin McGeever has been listed for hearing in May.

The trial was mentioned at Galway Circuit Criminal Court today where it was listed for hearing in three months time.

The 70-year, with a former address at Nirvana, Ballywinna, Craughwell, Co Galway, is charged with wasting garda time in relation to a six-month investigation into his alleged kidnapping in 2012.

He is also charged with knowingly making false reports and statements to gardaí on various dates in 2013, relating to allegations of false imprisonment, assault and threats to harm.

The court was told the case was expected to take four days to complete.

Mr McGeever attended court this morning but did not speak during the brief hearing.

The Mayo man is facing two charges under Section 12 A and 12 B of the 1976 Criminal Law Act. These relate to knowingly giving false reports and statements that an offence had been committed and to wasting garda time. The offences were allegedly carried out between January 29 and February 28 of this year.

They relate to the period of eight months from May 27, 2012 and January 29, 2013 when he initially claimed to have been abducted.
