Judge Patrick McCartan: praised jurors for efforts

TRIAL Judge Patrick McCartan told the jury it was "unique" in how it handled the trial.

Judge McCartan, widely tipped for elevation to the High Court, praised the jurors for their work, having fulfilled their duty for 29 days.

"We are going into a period when the courts will have to deal with complex trials," said Judge McCartan as he excused the seven men and five women from jury service for life.

"You (the jurors) give us great confidence that the jury and jurors of this city and county can deal with these type of cases."

Concerns have been raised that juries will not be able to cope with lengthy and complex fraud cases following the collapse of several high-profile trials in the UK.
