THREE men allegedly caught with a hockey stick wrapped in barbed wire after gardai stopped a car have been sent for trial.

Anthony Cleary (20), Joseph Boswell (27) and Ciaran Sutcliffe (25) were served with the book of evidence when they appeared at Tallaght District Court.

Mr Cleary, of Cushlawn Park, and Mr Sutcliffe, of Cushlawn Parade, both in Tallaght, and Mr Boswell, of Tor an Ri Lane, Lucan, are all charged with possession of a weapon, namely a hockey stick wrapped in barbed wire, with intent to cause injury or intimidate another.

The hockey stick was found after gardai stopped a car at Donomore Crescent, Tallaght, last November 30.

Mr Boswell and Mr Sutcliffe are further charged with having a claw hammer with intent to cause harm.

Mr Boswell is also charged with possession of a large knife and driving without insurance.

A state solicitor said the book of evidence had been served on the men, who go forward for trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Bernadette Owens gave the men the formal alibi caution.

They have not yet indicated their pleas to the charges.
