Three men in custody after brawl breaks out in court

Three Sligo men were charged and remanded in custody last night, after an alleged vicious brawl erupted at yesterday's sitting of the district court.

The alleged brawl broke out in the foyer of the court around noon between three men and a youth.

Gardaí who were in Sligo district court were alerted by the screams of terrified women who saw the unseemly brawl.

Sergeant Cathal Duffy said there were allegations made of a verbal altercation before the incident.

The men were brought to Sligo garda station where they were charged with using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.

Tony Murrin (54), of St Anne's Terrace, Sligo, John Dennedy (25) with addresses at Bruach na hAbhann, Coolaney and Racecourse View, Sligo, and Dylan Clarke, St Anne's Terrace were all charged

The fourth man, who is a minor, was being dealt with separately.

They were remanded in custody to appear at a special sitting of Sligo district court tonight.
