Thief admits stealing rugby coach's medal

A MAN who broke into new Irish rugby coach Joe Schmidt's house and stole a Heineken Cup winner's medal has been sentenced to 200 hours' community service.

Tallaght District Court heard that nobody had been in Mr Schmidt's house when Christy Connors carried out the burglary last December. Connors (20), with an address at Green Street, Wexford, and Fergus Donegan (45), with an address at Nutgrove Crescent, Rathfarnham, were charged with burglary at an address at Braemor Park in Churchtown, Dublin, on December 9 last.

The judge remanded Mr Donegan on continuing bail to a date in July. Counsel for Connors said his client was pleading guilty to the burglary charge. The judge sentenced Connors to 200 hours' community service.
