Teenager in court over birthday party attack
A GARDEN party for a young woman celebrating her 18th birthday descended into chaos when a gang of masked raiders broke in to attack her and her guests.
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with violent disorder in connection with the incident at the woman's south Dublin home last November.
He appeared at the Dublin Children's Court for a hearing to determine his trial venue. The DPP had recommended the case should go forward to the Circuit Court, which has wider sentencing powers.
Defence solicitor John Quinn asked the court to accept jurisdiction. He said it was not alleged his client had harmed anyone.
He said the teenager was accused of dragging and pushing people and punching a male, who was not injured.
Judge Walsh accepted jurisdiction and remanded the boy, who was accompanied to court by his father, on bail to appear again in three weeks when he is to enter a plea to the charge.
