Teenager cleared of raping woman in her home

Niamh O'Donoghue

A TEENAGER has been cleared of raping a woman who, at first, wanted to have sex with him.

The 19-year-old had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the woman at an address in Waterford on September 17, 2011.

The jury of eight men and four women found him not guilty by unanimous verdict after a little over an hour of deliberations.

The complainant, who was 20 at the time of the incident, said she met the teen in a nightclub through a mutual friend.

She said she asked him to come to her house over a week later when all of her housemates were away. She then consented to sex.

She said the sex became "very rough" and she told him to stop three times and tried to push him off.

When interviewed by gardai the man denied she told him to stop during the sex and said she was enjoying it.
