A 17-year-old boy has been accused of unlawfully possessing tranquiliser tablets at the Dublin Children's Courthouse.

The teenager made no reply today when he was charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act with possession of a quantity of diazepam tablets at the courthouse in Smithfield, in north inner city Dublin, on March 20.

The Dublin Children's Court heard that the boy is currently serving a six-month sentence for other crimes and due to be released in October.

The boy, who was accompanied to his hearing by his mother, was ordered to appear again next month when he is to enter a plea to the charge.

He is also awaiting trial for a motor theft offence.
