Teen kicked woman and 'sent friend request'

A TEENAGE girl who kicked a woman in the head during a random street attack allegedly sent her a Facebook 'friend request' afterwards.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to assault causing harm to the woman during an unprovoked attack at the Jervis Street Luas stop in Dublin on March 12, 2011. The 21-year-old victim may be left scarred for life after she was kicked in the head.

The woman, who was not known to the girl before the attack, was taken to hospital where she received stitches.

The teenager denied sending the friend request and said she believed her Facebook account had been hacked by another person.

The court heard that on the night of the attack, the girl was "under the influence and has little recollection of the events".

The girl, who was accompanied to her hearing by her mother, was given the Probation Offenders Act, meaning she is spared a sentence and a criminal conviction.
