Shatter suspect denied bail

A FATHER of one charged over a burglary at the home of Justice Minister Alan Shatter has been further remanded in custody, pending directions from the DPP, writes Tom Tuite.

Darragh Heavey (25), of Moeran Road, Walkinstown, Dublin, had been charged last week with trespassing at Mr Shatter's house, at Delbrook Manor, Ballinteer, Dublin, with intent to commit theft on March 18. He had been remanded in custody on March 20 last following a garda objection to bail.

No one was home at the time of the incident which is alleged to have occurred as Mr Shatter was attending St Patrick's Day celebrations in Australia.

Mr Heavey made his second court appearance yesterday at Dun Laoghaire District Court.

Garda Sergeant Mary Diskin told Judge Clare Leonard that the prosecution was awaiting directions from the DPP.

Judge Leonard remanded Mr Heavey in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on April 10 next.
