Sex-bully claims are wrong, court told

Tim Healy

A SECONDARY school teacher yesterday denied he made any sexual approaches to a former colleague who has accused him of bullying and harassment.

Jim Mooney told the High Court that the claims by Mary O'Toole were "absolutely and completely wrong".

He was under cross-examination in the ongoing action by Ms O'Toole who claims he leered at, inappropriately touched and verbally insulted her between 1996 and 2000.

Ms O'Toole (48), a married mother of one of Whitehall Estate, Tullamore, Co Offaly, is suing Offaly VEC, claiming it failed to protect her during those years when she worked at Tullamore College.

She claims the VEC did nothing about her complaints against Mr Mooney, and she moved to another school in 2001. The VEC has denied the claims.

Mr Mooney has told the court that Ms O'Toole had a crush on him and that his refusal to respond led to the allegations.

The case continues.
