Rapist has sentence cut to 15 years
A MAN has had his life sentence for the repeated rape and sexual assault of his daughter reduced to 15 years on appeal.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to life imprisonment by Mr Justice Paul Carney in March 2006.
He had pleaded guilty to 32 counts of rape and sexual assault against his daughter.
In October last year, the Court of Criminal Appeal set aside the life sentence imposed by Mr Justice Carney.
The presiding judge said the court was "in no sense" reviewing the sentence.
Instead, it would pass sentence having regard to the circumstances of the case as they were today, and decided that 15 years' imprisonment was appropriate.
