Pensioner (70s) hospitalised after alleged carjacking, man and woman charged

A pensioner (70s) was hospitalised after he was threatened and his car was stolen last night.

The incident happened at Wine Street car park in Sligo at around 7.20pm.

He was approached by a man and a woman who threatened him and took his car.

The alarm was raised and Gardai intercepted the vehicle in Carrick-on-Shannon a short time later.

A man and a woman (both aged in their 30s) were arrested at the scene and were brought to Ballymote Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 for questioning.

They both appeared before a sitting of Ballina District Court today and they were charged in connection with the incident.

The injured victim was brought to Sligo General Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Investigations are ongoing and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to get in touch with them.
