‘Outrageous’ – judge reacts to punch up in Limerick court

A MAN is in garda custody after a fight broke out at the back of a courtroom this morning.

The punch-up between two men sitting at the back of the Limerick District court room shortly before 11.30am.

Up to six gardai had to step in when the two men – both in their 20s – became violent.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly, who later called the behaviour “outrageous”, was forced to rise from the bench for almost 15 minutes.

One of the men – who had been due to appear on a charge of criminal damage to a garda car – was taken into custody, while the other was ordered to leave the courtroom.

Judge O’Kelly said he would let another judge deal with the man’s case.
