The Garda's senior civilian officer said his trawl of former commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan's personal Gmail account uncovered just one email linked to official business.

The email, from public relations guru Terry Prone, contained details of a statement the commissioner was to make soon after it appeared in her personal email account.

Chief administrative officer with An Garda Síochána Joseph Nugent said he considered the statement to be the only evidence he could uncover of Ms O'Sullivan using a personal email account to carry out official Garda business.

He said he had not determined its contents to be sensitive because it "contained something that was going to be made public in the next day or so".

"What I saw was, in general terms, the sort of subscription type of material that anyone would have in their own personal account.

"The one email [with] the press statement was from Terry Prone," said Mr Nugent.
