Murder acquitted placed in psychiatric hospital

Jessica Magee

A MAN who was acquitted of attempting to murder his estranged wife has been committed to the Central Mental Hospital for an indefinite period.

Alexander Gano (40), of Connaught Street in Dublin 7, was found not guilty of stabbing his wife at the Central Criminal Court last month.

Mr Justice Paul Carney accepted the psychiatrist's conclusion that it would be in Mr Gano's best interests to continue to receive specialist treatment in secure conditions at the Central Mental Hospital.
