Munster coach gets injunction

A SENIOR fitness coach with Munster has claimed the club is making him redundant so that it can fill his position with someone else, writes Tim Healy.

Dr Tom Comyns yesterday obtained a temporary High Court injunction preventing the IRFU Munster branch from advertising for or filling in the position of fitness coach.

Ms Justice Mary Laffoy said the order was in place until next week or pending further order.

Dr Comyns's counsel told the judge he was coach with a lot of experience and a doctorate in physical education.

Last Friday, he was told "out of the blue" by Garrett Fitzgerald, Munster's CEO, that his position was to be made redundant, counsel said.

Dr Comyns had been employed on a significant salary by Munster since 2006 and before then had a long association with the club, she said.

He was also told his position was to be readvertised.
