A woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her 11-year-old daughter more than two years ago.
Bernadette Scully, of Emvale, Bachelors Walk, Tullamore, Co Offaly, appeared before a sitting of Tullamore District Court this morning.
The 56-year-old was charged with the murder of Emily Barut at the Bachelors Walk address on September 15 in 2012.
Detective Sgt Jer Glavin gave evidence of arresting Mrs Scully at Bachelors Walk at 9.40am this morning.
Det Glavin told the court that "in response to the charge on caution Ms Scully made no reply".
He applied to have her remanded in custody to the Dochas Centre to reappear before Tullamore District Court on Wednesday.
Defence solicitor Patricia Cronin said given the nature of the charge she could not make an application for bail.
She told Judge Catherine Staines that an application will be made for legal aid.
Ms Cronin asked that any necessary medical attention be provided and she asked that her client be medically assessed.
Judge Staines recommended that Mrs Scully be medically assessed.
The accused was remanded in custody to the Dohas Centre to reappear before Tullamore District Court on Wednesday.
