Moment of silence observed in High Court for the late Justice Paul Carney
A moment of silence was observed today as a tribute to the late Mr Justice Paul Carney in the High Court.
Mr Justice Paul Butler said he did not wish to add comments as the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns, had already paid a tribute to Judge Carney.
The court then stood and a moment of silence was observed.
The 72-year-old former judge died yesterday following a short illness. He had served 24 years as a High Court judge and was forced to retire last April on age grounds.
Judge Kearns yesterday said Judge Carney’s death, coming so soon after his retirement, “is a sad loss for his family and for the judiciary which he served with such distinction for so many years.”
Judge Carney, a married father of four, was called to the Bar in 1966 and was appointed a High Court judge in 1991.
