Michael McDonald murder trial will start next Tuesday

THE trial of a Kildare man who is accused of murdering a mother-of-one is to commence in the Central Criminal Court on Tuesday

Michael McDonald (50) of Barnhill, Castledermot, Co Kildare has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Breda Cummins (31) on May 13, 2010 at Michael Dooley Terrace, Athy.

When he was arraigned last Tuesday (October 30) he pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Ms Cummins but this plea has not been accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

He also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm to John Lawlor (33) of Pearse Terrace, Castledermot at Michael Dooley Terrace on the same date.

The trial which will take place before Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley and a jury of eight men and four women is due to last for three weeks.
