GARDAI are searching for two Romanian men after they failed to turn up at their manslaughter trial.

The two Romanians had been due to face trial for the manslaughter of Galway teacher and publican John Kenny in 2011.

Bench warrants were issued for the men when they failed to appear at Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

Marian Linguarar (36) who is originally from Romania but with an address at Orchard Court, Blackpool, Cork, and a minor who cannot be named for legal reasons, were due to appear in court for the hearing. However, when they were called yesterday, officers of the court discovered they weren't present.

Superintendent Noel Kelly from Salthill garda station gave evidence to the court that the pair had been aware that their trial was due to begin yesterday.

He added that the men had been present on the last date in March, when a trial date was set.

They had been called to court but made no appearance. When they failed to appear, Judge Keenan Johnson issued bench warrants for their arrest.

The trial had been expected to last for two to three weeks.

Mr Kenny (56) ran the family-owned pub in Oughterard and also taught at the Presentation College in Athenry.

He was found dead in his pub on Main Street, Oughterard, on September 25, 2011. His hands had been tied behind his back.
