Man in his 20s killed when car collided with van

A garda investigation is underway into a fatal road crash in Limerick city.

A man in his 20s died following a crash where the car he was in collided with a van on Hyde Road around 7.40pm.

A garda spokesperson said man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick along with the other occupant of the car. He was later pronounced dead.

A man in his 40s and his young daughter (5) were travelling in the van at the time. They were not seriously injured.

Three units of the Limerick City and County Fire Service responded to the scene, along with Gardai, and a HSE ambulance crew.

The scene of the collision at Hyde Road is currently closed to traffic between Lower Carey’s Road and Lenihan Avenue and diversions are in place. Garda Forensic collision investigators have been requested to examine the scene.
