A DUBLIN man charged with IRA membership and firearms offensives has been granted legal aid at the Special Criminal Court.

Declan Geraghty (30), of Bawnlea Crescent, Tallaght, Dublin 24, is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on September 26, 2012.

The accused man, who was arrested as part of a garda investigation in to the activities of dissident republicans, is also charged with the possession of a 9mm FEG model P9 pistol at his home on the same date.

Presiding judge Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan said the court would grant a certificate for legal aid after lawyers for the accused man submitted a signed statement of means.

Mr Justice Sheehan, sitting with Judge Margaret Heneghan and Judge William Hamill, remanded Mr Geraghty in custody to appear before the non-jury court on October 30.
