Man found guilty of sexually abusing his nephew over 20 years ago
A 68-year-old Dublin man has been convicted at the Central Criminal Court of sexually abusing his nephew over twenty years ago.
The man, who can not be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty to 44 counts which include 13 counts of indecent assault, 12 counts of indecent assault involving anal penetration, 8 counts of sexual assault and 11 counts of anal rape at locations in Dublin and Mayo between 1989 and 1992.
The boy was aged between 12 and 16 years old at the time of the offences.
The jury had earlier been directed by Mr Justice Barry White to find the man not guilty on one count of indecent assault and one count of indecent assault involving anal penetration.
The jury of two women and ten men returned their verdicts of guilty on all remaining 42 counts following six hours and 34 minutes deliberation on day five of the trial.
Mr Justice White thanked the jurors for their service and exempted them from further service for life. He registered the man as a sex offender, ordered a victim impact statement and remanded the man in custody for sentence on April 22nd next.
