Man faces further charge of raping girl
A MAN facing charges of raping two little girls had a further rape charge put to him.
The 30-year-old from Athlone, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Harristown District Court in Castlerea, Co Roscommon.
He was initially charged with four counts: twice raping each of the girls, aged six and nine, at an address in Athlone on September 28. The girls had been attending a birthday party in the area. It later emerged after they went missing that they had been raped at a nearby house.
The man has been on remand at the adjoining Castlerea Prison since early October.
At Harristown District Court last month, his solicitor confirmed that his client had indicated he would be pleading guilty to the four charges when the case comes before the Central Criminal Court.
In court yesterday, Sergeant Yvette McCormack gave evidence of yesterday charging the accused man with another rape of one of the young girls at the same location on September 28.
Inspector Jones applied to have him remanded in custody for a further week and Judge Geoffrey Browne granted the application.
