Man charged with making death threat

A MAN has been charged with threatening to kill a sister of an innocent businessman who was brutally murdered last year.

The charge followed a garda investigation into threats allegedly issued against student Leeanne Collins (19) earlier this week.

Ms Collins' family have suffered a wave of threats and intimidation since her brother Roy was shot dead in Limerick last year.

Stephen O'Reilly, in his early '20s and with various addresses in Athlone, appeared before Mullingar district court yesterday afternoon.

He was charged with threatening to kill Ms Collins, contrary to section 5 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Garda evidence was given that he had been arrested by officers in Tullamore and taken to Athlone garda station for questioning on Wednesday.

Mr O'Reilly was remanded in custody for a week and will appear again at Cloverhill court in Dublin.
