A man is due in court this morning charged with assault after a bus driver was attacked in Monaghan yesterday.

The incident happened at Coolshannagh in the town of Monaghan at 2.45pm.

Reports say the suspect was trying to purchase a ticket on a private bus traveling from Donegal to Dublin when he was told the bus was full.

He is then said to have punched the driver in the face.

The driver then fell down and was further assaulted while on the ground.

He sustained a broken nose and head injuries.

A group of motorcyclists from a club called the Bad Examples who were in the vicinity saw what was happening and followed the attacker who then went to Monaghan garda station when he saw he said was being tailed.

He was then arrested and is due to appear at Monaghan District Court this morning.

The bus driver was treated in hospital for his injuries.
