A 25-YEAR-OLD Dublin man has been charged in connection with an arson attack which destroyed a tiler's van and €9,000 worth of his tools.

Dean Dennison, of Ardcollin Avenue, Artane, was charged today with criminal damage to a Renault van and assorted tools, at Beech Hill Avenue, Dublin 4, on January 18, 2010.

Garda Gerard Hickey told Judge Cormac Dunne at Dublin District Court that Mr Dennison was arrested earlier this month and “made no reply to caution”.

The DPP has directed that the case should only be dealt with in the District Court if a guilty plea is entered.

In an outline of the evidence, Gda Hickey said it would be alleged that it was “basically arson”.

A window was smashed in the van and “petrol was then poured in”, Gda Hickey alleged adding that the van and €9,000 worth of tools were destroyed.

He said the arrest came after a number of searches and mobile phones had been seized.

Judge Dunne accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case in the District Court and remanded Mr Dennison on bail to appear again next month when he is to enter a plea to the charge.
