A man has been charged with robbing a woman in her 70s and theft from another woman, also in her 70s, in separate incidents in Sandymount, Dublin 4, within the space of four days.

The first victim was injured as she stood waiting for a bus at a stop on Newgrove Avenue at about 7pm on Friday, November 10.

The elderly woman managed to hold on to her bag, but was later treated for her injuries at St Vincent's Hospital.

Four days later, on Tuesday, November 14, another woman in her 70s was targeted on Wilfield Road in Sandymount.

Brian Dunne (33), of George Reynolds House, Irishtown, was arrested last Friday morning following a search of his home address.

He was brought before Dublin District Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice on Friday where he was charged with the robbery of the elderly lady in her 70s at the bus stop on Newgrove Avenue, and theft from a lady in her 70s at Wilfield Road.

He made no reply when charged.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill Court on Wednesday.
