Man attacked 'for no reason' by teen gang

A GANG of youths tried to provoke members of the public in Temple Bar in Dublin before setting on a man for "no apparent reason", a court heard yesterday.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged at the Dublin Children's Court with violent disorder and assault causing harm to a man in his 40s, at Crampton Court, in the city centre.

Garda Jennifer Weldon told Judge Ann Ryan that a group of youths had been under surveillance and were seen walking from the Central Bank Plaza into Temple Bar.

They then approached the man, who was kicked by another member of the group "for no apparent reason".

The boy, who was accompanied to his hearing by his father, was remanded on bail to appear again later this month when he will be expected to enter a plea.
