Man accused of shooting 25-year-old in the face

A MAN has been released on bail after being charged with injuring a man shot in the face, writes Louise Hogan.

Patrick Fortune (41), with an address at Whitestown Park in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, was charged with assault causing harm and with possession of a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition on February 1, 2012.

Mr Fortune, who was dressed in a leather jacket and grey shirt, was released on bail from Blanchardstown District Court.

Shane Williams (25) is recovering in Beaumont Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the face in the shooting at Blanchardstown on Wednesday, February 1.

Sergeant Dan Callaghan said Mr Fortune was arrested at 10pm on February 2 at Blanchardstown garda station and charged with both counts.

"He replied after caution 'nothing to say'," Sgt Callaghan told the court.

An application for legal aid was also submitted.

Mr Fortune is due to reappear in court on March 30, 2012.
