A 91-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court after he obstructed and abused a garda in a nursing home.

Niall O'Mahony of Ardkilmartin, Kilmallock, Co Lime- rick, will be back before a judge next week after he was charged with separate offences which gardai claim occurred at the nursing home.

Mr O'Mahony eats his dinner at Maria Goretti nursing home each day and lives alongside it.

It has been alleged in Kilmallock District Court that Mr O'Mahony was physically and verbally abusive to the garda and staff at the nursing home on February 25 last.

He is also charged with obstructing a garda officer on the same date.

Mr O'Mahony has also been charged with a separate assault at the same nursing home on January 10.

At a court appearance on Friday March 1, Judge Mary Larkin told the pensioner that gardai have brought charges against him.

After consulting with his client, counsel for Mr O'Mahony said they could proceed with the case and indicated a plea of guilty.

Judge Larkin fixed bail on the defendant's own bond of €300 and adjourned the case until March 15.
