A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of another man in Finglas last weekend.

David Cully, of Kilsane Road, Finglas is accused of murdering 41-year-old Edward O'Connor, who was shot dead on the Ballycoolin Road last Sunday.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday.

Mr Cully had been questioned by detectives for four days about the murder of Mr O’Connor.

Gardaí believe the murder is connected to a fight in a pub during which a relative of the victim was seriously injured.

Groups from opposing sides in that dispute are thought to have arranged to meet for a fight at the Ballycoolin Road last Sunday.

However, a gun was produced and Mr O'Connor was shot a number of times in the back.

A man and a woman also questioned about the killing were subsequently released without charge, but following consultations with the DPP Mr Cully was charged with murder.
