Killer's plea for Facebook silence

A man who has pleaded guilty to manslaughter has asked a court to stop people from making comments about him on Facebook.

Dean Short of Lally Road, Ballyfermot, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the unlawful killing of Paul McCarthy at Myra Close, Inchicore, on May 9, 2011.

Sean Guerin BL, prosecuting, told Judge Mary Ellen that the family were present in court for the brief arraignment yesterday. Judge Ring ordered the preparation of a victim impact report.

Kieran Kelly BL, defending,said his client wanted the court to prevent people from making comments about the case on Facebook. Judge Ring replied: "These are difficult cases for everyone involved. It's in everyone's interest to let the courts deal with all matters." She set a date for sentencing in October.
