The man accused of murdering Irish student nurse Karen Buckley is appearing in Glasgow court this morning.

Alexander Pacteau (21) is expected to enter a plea to the charge that he murdered the 24-year-old student in Glasgow earlier this year.

A guilty plea would result in a mandatory life sentence for Pacteau but the case will be tried in front of judge and jury at a full trial if he decides to plead not guilty.

Karen, from Mourneabbey in north Cork, went missing following a night out with her housemates at Sanctuary nightclub in Glasgow in the early hours of April 12.

Her friends raised the alarm when she failed to return to the group in the nightclub after telling them she was going to the bathroom and would be back shortly.

Karen's body was found at High Craigton Farm on the north-western outskirts of Glasgow following a four-day search.
