A jobless man has been charged with possession of a double-barrel shotgun during a stand-off with gardaí in west Dublin at the weekend.

Patrick Kinch (47) appeared in Dublin District Court on a single firearms charge. He was remanded in custody after no bail application was made on his behalf.

Mr Kinch, with an address at Deerpark Square, Tallaght, is charged with possession of a Beretta double-barrel shotgun with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.

The offence is under Section 15 of the Firearms Act and is alleged to have happened at Deerpark Square on Saturday, December 20.

Garda Ruairi Meagher told the court he arrested the accused at Tallaght Garda Station at 11.50am yesterday.

He made no reply to the charge after caution.

Defence solicitor Yvonne Bambury said she was not making a bail application.

Judge Michael Walsh remanded the accused in custody.
