'It's not okay to rape and kill my child'
IN A hushed Victoria courtroom, the father of Jill Meagher turned and directly addressed his daughter's killer.
Despite his heartbreak, George McKeon spoke in a strong and steady voice, directly addressing Adrian Ernest Bayley (inset below), who had raped and strangled his beloved daughter.
"It is not okay to rape and murder my child," he said simply.
The shocking extent of Bayley's criminal history was also revealed yesterday – he had been convicted of 22 rapes against six women and was on parole when he killed the Drogheda woman in Brunswick, Melbourne.
After the pre-sentencing hearing, Victoria's Premier Denis Napthine, who was close to tears, said the state's parole system had failed Jill and her family.
"The system was flawed, the system failed Jill Meagher," Mr Napthine said.
