Irishman charged with murder of Wexford emigrant in Australia

A 32-year-old Irish national accused of stabbing Wexford man Kenny Meyler in Australia two weeks ago was charged with murder at Perth Magistrates court in Australia this morning.

Mr Meyler (21) died in hospital last Sunday, a week after being stabbed in the neck in the Scarborough suburb of Perth.

Vincent Martin Crowe, who was originally charged with causing grievous bodily harm, was first remanded in custody on 11 February.

The decision to upgrade the charge to one of murder was made by detectives following the results of a post-mortem on the young Wexford man's body.

It is believed Mr Meyler had been due to return home to Wexford in the coming months.

Prior to moving to Australia two years ago, Mr Meyler boxed for the Wexford CBS Boxing Club in the town.

During a short career with the club, he was known as a dedicated trainer who met with some success on the county scene in the novice grades.
