Injured soldier gets €76,900
THE High Court has awarded €76,900 to an army sergeant who suffered eye injuries after a tyre on an armoured personnel carrier exploded while he was examining it.
Quartermaster Sgt Martin Bolger (44), from Thomastown, Co Kilkenny, was on UN duty in Liberia, in July 2006 when the tyre exploded without warning.
In his proceedings against the Minister for Defence, Ireland, and the Attorney General, he alleged negligence and breach of duty of care.
Liability had been admitted.
