Injured bouncer awarded €25,000
A PART-TIME bouncer was yesterday awarded €25,000 in damages after doormen used "excessive force" to stop him getting into a nightclub.
Judge Jacqueline Linnane said in the Circuit Civil Court in Dublin that excessive force had been used by bouncers at Bar Code Nightclub, Clontarf, Co Dublin, to stop Dermot Ryan from getting in.
Mr Ryan (28) is a jobless construction worker and part-time bouncer.
She said Mr Ryan, from Baldoyle, Dublin, may have had too much to drink when he sought admission to the club on June 18, 2006, but she was satisfied the bouncers on the door had used excessive force to restrain him.
Bouncers at Bar Code had jumped on Mr Ryan and had acted with "monstrous and disproportionate" behaviour towards him, breaking his arm, the court was told.
The judge awarded €25,000 and costs jointly against Bar Code's owners, Templeville Developments, of Leopardstown, Dublin, and Joe Dowling, trading as JD Security, Crestwood Avenue, Ashbourne, Co Meath.
