Guilty plea in €140,000 council theft case
A MAN has pleaded guilty to 23 counts of theft after more than €140,000 was stolen from Cork City Council.
Karl McCaughley (40), of Kilmore Woods, Ballinspittle, Co Cork, pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to 28 sample counts including 23 of theft, three counts of forgery and two counts of deception.
The offences occurred on dates between 2006 and 2009.
Counsel for the prosecution told the Circuit Criminal Court that the main injured party was Cork City Council.
The court heard that McCaughley's guilty plea had saved the State considerable expense.
Judge Patrick J Moran remanded McCaughley on continuing bail for sentencing on February 8 next year.
