German chef: I was man in Michaela ‘CCTV row’
A German chef has told RTE that he and his then girlfriend are the couple arguing in CCTV footage which was shown at the Micheala McAreavey murder trial last Friday.
The defence team for the two men accused of killing Michaela maintained that the couple filmed arguing at the Legends Hotel were John and Michaela McAreavey, and that the video proved that John McAreavey had given a contradictory account of his movements to the court.
However, Harald Hoyer has told RTE News that he and his now ex-girlfriend are the couple in the footage, and that he would be willing to travel to Mauritius to give evidence at the trial.
Speaking from Munich, he told an RTE reporter, “Yes I would certainly do that. I could also give an affidavit here in Germany with the German police. Of course I would do that if I could definitely help the husband of Michaela.”
The footage was filmed just after 3pm on January 10 last year, around 15 minutes after the prosecution claim the daughter of Tyrone Gaelic football boss Mickey Harte died at the hands of two hotel employees.
Former room attendant Avinash Treebhoowoon, 31, and floor supervisor Sandip Moneea, 42, deny her murder.
The short three-minute clip from the Legends reception was played along with other security camera footage in front of a packed Supreme Court in Port Louis on Friday.
