Gardai will come down heavily on gangland criminals, Shatter warns
JUSTICE Minister Alan Shatter has declared the gardai will "bear down heavily" on gangland criminals.
In the wake of a series of gangland murders and shootings, Mr Shatter said the country is not on a slippery slope.
"We will surrender no part of this country, no street in this country, no laneway in this country to criminal gangs," he said.
The minister also said the Real IRA will be dealt with.
He said those involved in criminal activity had "no responsibility for human life".
"I am in ongoing contact with the Garda Commissioner about all aspects of serious crime and the Gardaí will continue to bear down heavily on the activities of those involved in gangland crime.
"That is clear from the extent of the Garda operations launched against gangs as well as the many drug seizures that have taken place in recent months and weeks," he said.
