A FORMER delivery driver stole some 9,000 cigarettes after he failed to scan the container before loading it on to his truck, a court heard.
Patrick Connors (38) was caught on CCTV cameras as he placed the container on to the vehicle.
Blanchardstown District Court was told he has since lost his job.
Judge David McHugh adjourned the matter to a date in February to allow Connors to pay compensation for the goods he stole.
The defendant, with an address at Melville Terrace, Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to stealing 9,000 cigarettes with a value of €4,000.
The offence took place at Nightline, Jamestown Road, Finglas, on November 5.
Sgt Mary Doherty said the defendant worked for Nightline at the time and was loading a truck with cigarettes.
She said Connors failed to scan a container with 9,000 cigarettes worth €4,000.
The sergeant added that Connors was caught on CCTV cameras.
Defence solicitor Simon Fleming said Connors cooperated with gardai and has repaid 80pc of the compensation.
He asked for time to allow Connors pay the balance.
