Conor Haugh: pleaded guilty to harassing married woman

A farm worker who stalked a married woman living nearby on a remote peninsula "had become obsessed with the older woman", a court heard.

Conor Haugh (22) of Killballyowen, Cross on the Loop Head peninsula in west Clare, even tried to contact the 43-year-old mother of four while he was in jail, prosecutors said.

Mr Haugh yesterday pleaded guilty to harassing the woman between February of last year and January 5 this year. Judge Gerard Keys, at Ennis District Court, freed Mr Haugh on bail until October 5 to undergo a number of reports under the supervision of the Probation Service to address his problems. He ordered Haugh not go within one mile of his victim's home.

Garda Adrian Cosgrove said that in one text to the woman, Mr Haugh texted: "I think you're a MILF. I saw you over the summer with your tanned body. Very hot."

In another, he wrote: "I have texted since 2009 and I have liked you since you drove the 06 Renault, that is how much I like you. Last year, I followed you over to Ennis one Saturday and back to your home place."

Garda Cosgrove said "this text is what really put the frighteners on the victim".

Yvonne Quinn BL, defending, said Mr Haugh told gardai: "I just like her, I fancy her. I would never do anything to her or anything like that. I just want to be friends with her - no more than that."
